Introducing the Team
Rebecca Paterson - Director
Rebecca qualified as a Solicitor of England and Wales (currently non-practicing) in 2010 and after moving to the Island, further qualified as a Manx Advocate in 2013.
In her early career Rebecca specialised in civil and commercial litigation before moving towards her specialism in property law and conveyancing in more recent years. After joining Paterson Property Law, Rebecca continues to use her knowledge and experience to undertake the role of Compliance Officer whilst supporting the firm with property and land law advice and guidance and overseeing the smooth running of the business.
Rebecca is keen to promote the core value of Paterson Property Law by providing exceptional customer service to all of our clients.

James Kennaugh – Title Researcher
James is a fundamental part of the team and provides unparalleled support to the conveyancers in his vast knowledge of the Isle of Man land and property market. After completing his degree in Law in London, James returned to the Island and developed an intricate knowledge of property ownership across the Island. James searches property titles and has a well trained eye in noting important title details including covenants and easements.
Karen Barfoot – Conveyancer
Karen’s warm and bubbly nature is a great comfort to her clients when dealing with their property transaction. Karen understands moving house can be very stressful and that each transaction is personal to her clients. Karen works extremely hard to ensure that any stress is kept to a minimum whilst working efficiently towards completion.
Together with her experience of local Manx Conveyancing, Karen brings with her over 20 years knowledge of property management which has proved useful to clients in the past.
Remembering the Founder
Martin Paterson
Martin solely founded the firm (with support from Rebecca) in 2020, as it was his dream to provide the Island’s residents with a bespoke and specialist property law firm. Martin had a fantastic reputation on the Island as being friendly and approachable, and his personable nature made him so easy to work with, which applied to clients, estate agents and other advocates alike.
Martin enjoyed wonderful success upon opening the firm and he worked extremely hard through the post-Covid property boom to rapidly expand the firm and provide property advice and assistance to hundreds of clients in a short couple of years.
Tragically, Martin passed away in October 2023 at aged 37. He handed the reins of Paterson Property Law to Rebecca and his colleagues to continue to provide the excellent personal service to clients old and new alike, for which he was so affectionately known. Paterson Property Law continues to build upon his core values and work towards the future in his loving memory.
